The reason why part from Chepe is my only name is that due to their nomadic lifestyle, most Mongolians, apart from aristocrats, do not have a last name. The Mongolian meaning is “war arrow”. As my citizenship is Chinese the official name stated in my passport is “晢博” which is the linguistic transcription into Chinese. In Europe the Chinese sound sequence of my name “pin yin” is used, that is to say “Zhebo”. However there are also direct translations from Mongolian into the Latin alphabet: “Chepe”, “Jebe”, “Djebe” etc. Besides that I use “Noyon” as a last name to avoid excessive attention caused in the Western world by the non existing last name.
